Lesley McLaren was born in Glasgow in 1984. At an early age she moved to Fife with her family and despite a brief stay in Dundee she returned to Fife and remains there at present. In 2004 and 2005 she completed courses at Central St Martins College of Art and Design in London. In 2006 she completed a BA Hons in Fine Art at Duncan of Jordanstone college of Art and Design in Dundee.
